Baseball rallies for split, as youth shines

Tommie Baseball rallied from 3-0 down in game two to post a 4-3 win and a split of a doubleheader against Schreiner (Texas) Saturday in Tucson, Ariz,

Freshman Tyson Stritesky pitched three scoreless innings to get the mound win. Sophomore T.J. Constertina got the save as he came on to strikeout both batters he faced with the tying and winning runs at first and second in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Trailing 3-1, Chandler Schaefbauer bunted home a run, Jack Cole had a pinch-hit RBI double and Ryan Lust had an RBI single to put the Toms ahead in the sixth inning. Freshman Jordan Amundson had an RBI double in the fourth inning.

In the seven-inning first game, the Purple lost 6-3. Josh Thorp had an RBI single and a solo homer to lead an eight-hit attack. Thorp's double started the three-run rally in game two.

Schreiner fell to 8-5-1 after losing two of three to the Toms over two days.

Coach Chris Olean's team closes the trip with single games on Sunday against Briar Cliff and Monday against Park (Ariz.).
