Kapraun second of 90 in elite Men's Golf tourney

Player picUST sophomore Alex Kapraun placed second place in a field of 90 men's golfers at the three-day GolfWeek D-III Fall Invite in Miramar Beach, Fla.

The 54-hole tournament concluded Tuesday with 18 holes.

Kapraun (72-68-71/211) finished six shots behind winner Cory Howard of LaGrange (69-68-68/205). He beat the third-place golfer by three strokes.

Monday's 68 was the best college score for Kapraun thus far in 39 competitive rounds.

St. Thomas shot 295 on Monday and 290 on Tuesday to finish in seventh place out of 18 teams at 887. The Tommies were only four strokes out of fourth place, and one behiond sixth-place Illinois Wesleyan. Their 290 was the tournament's third best score on Tuesday.

St. John's (876), LaGrange (877) and Oglethorpe (879) took the top three places.

Bennett Schroeder shot 72 on Tuesday and tied for 20th place at 220. Brian Parkhurst shot 71 and placed 25th at 221. Michael Mortenson shot 76 and scored 233. John Young finished at 244.

UST sophomore Alex Kapraun shot a 68 on Monday, to match the low round of the tournament, and moved into second place in a field of 90 men's golfers at the GolfWeek D-III Fall Invite in Miramar Beach, Fla.

The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday with 18 holes.

Kapraun (72-68/140) is three shots behind leader Cory Howard of LaGrange (69-68/147). The 68 was the best college score for Kapraun thus far in 39 competitive rounds.

St. Thomas shot 295 on Monday and climbed one spot into ninth place. The Tommies are only seven strokes out of fifth place.

Methodist (579), St. John's (581), LaGrange (583) and Texas-Tyler (584) hold the top four spots. Skidmore (590), Illinois Wesleyan (593), Oglethorpe (594), Transylvania (596), St. Thomas (597), Rhodes (602) and Guilford (603) are in fifth through 11th place.

Bennett Schroeder (77-71/148) shot 71 on Monday to move into a tie for 25th. Brian Parkhurst (77-77/154), Michael Mortenson (78-79/157) and John Young (76-83/159) round out the Tommie lineup.
