No. 22-ranked St. Thomas Men's Golf made it two wins in two fall events so far as it cruised to a 16-stroke victory over runner-up Gustavus Sunday in the two-day, 54-hole Pioneer Collegiate Invite in Maple Plain.
The eight-team tournament, which included five other MIAC teams, wrapped up with 36 holes of golf Sunday after 18 on Saturday.
Tommie senior All-America Emmet Herb had another steady, excellent weekend as he recorded an 8-under par score of 208. Herb led all 66 Division III players and beat 26 of the 27 Division I golfers. He took second out of 93 players, just two shots behind the medalist, Texas A&M's Brandon Smith (206). Herb had scores of 70, 69, 69.
St. Thomas junior Ben Frazzini tied for 12th place at 214 with rounds of 70, 74 and 70. Ben Kisla tied for 27th at 220 with rounds of 74, 74, 72. Peder Larson tied for 31st in 221 with rounds of 73, 75, 73. Miles McCarthy tied for 45th at 229 with rounds of 76, 78, 75.
The Tommies travel to Palm Beach, Fla., next weekend for the two-day NCAA Preview Meet.
