No. 22-ranked Tommie Men's Golf beat 11 other nationally-ranked teams with a fourth-place finish at the two-day, 54-hole NCAA Preview tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Senior All-America Emmet Herb placed second out of 90 players with a two-under 214 total. Seven of Herb's last eight rounds have been under par.

The Toms were in 12th place after shooting 312 on Saturday's first 18 holes. They rebounced with a 296 on the second round on Saturday, and then shot 290 on the Sunday round.

In Sunday's round, Herb and Peder Larson shot 70s; Ben Frazzini shot 73; Ben Kisla shot 77; and Miles McCarthy shot 79.

No. 2-ranked Emory (874), No. 1-ranked Illinois Wesleyan (881), No. 3-ranked Huntingdon (891), St. Thomas (898) and No. 9-ranked Washington and Lee (907) took the top five spots in the 18-team field.

The Toms beat the Nos. 4-5-6-7-9-10-11-12-15-16 and 20 ranked teams.


Saturday story

No. 22-ranked St. Thomas shot 312 on the day's first round but surged back into the top on their second 18 on Saturday at the 18-team NCAA Preview meet in Palm Beach, Fla. Thirteen top-25 ranked teams are competing.

The Tommies have climbed from 10th place after round one to a share of fourth place after shooting 8-over 296. They are just six shots out of third place. The final 18 holes will be played on Sunday.

Senior All-America Emmet Herb is tied for second in a field of 90 players at even-par (73-71). Herb has shot under par in six of his last sevebn rounds dating back to last season.

Senior Ben Kisla is tied for 12th at 149 (76-73). Ben Frazzini shot 157 (81-76); Peder Larson shot 159 (83-76); and Miles McCarthy shot 164 (82-82).
