Johnny on the spot: Hockey ends long losing skid to Pointers

Johnny Panvica's first goal of the season, with 1:52 left in regulation time, broke a 3-3 tie and let St. Thomas Men's Hockey pull out a 4-3 road victory Saturday night at defending NCAA champion UW-Stevens Point.

The Tommies snapped a nine-game losing streak to Stevens Point dating back to the 2005-06 season.

Cam Burggrabe had 30 saves in goal for the Tommies (2-1-1), who pushed their unbeaten streak to three.

Brett Gravelle and Derek Olmschenk recorded second-period goals. Point (2-2) regained the lead midway through the third frame, but Luke Radetic's first goal of the season with 5:02 to go knotted the score at 3-3.

St. Thomas opens MIAC play next weekend with two games against St. Olaf. The Toms' home opener is Saturday night Nov. 16.
