Two Tommie teams -- No. 19-ranked Women's Soccer and Men's Cross Country -- on Sunday saw their seasons continue.
But the 2019 seasons ended for No. 16-ranked St. Thomas Women's Cross Country team and No. 14-ranked Football.
Senior Sara Ness (11th at regionals) will represent cross country at nationals next Saturday in Louisville, but sophomore teammate Olivia Moll (15th) missed an individual qualifying spot by one place.
Coach Joe Sweeney's team placed second in the MIAC and fourth at regions, and earlier beat all 18 NCAA teams it faced at at UW-La Crosse Invite.
The No. 25-ranked Tommie Men's Cross Country team did receive one of 16 at-large spots and will race next Saturday in Louisville.
Tommie Football won its last four games to close 8-2, and its senior class won 39 games. But the Purple were unable to land one of the five at-large spots in the 32-team field. It was an unusually deep group of one- and two-loss playoff hopefuls that were denied in 2019.
Coach Glenn Caruso's Tommie had a costly two-point road defeat at UW-Eau Claire, and a 38-20 loss to 9-1 St. John's in a game they led in the second half.
The Toms shared the conference title -- the program's seventh MIAC solo or shared championship in 10 seasons. They also extended a streak of eight- or eight-plus win seasons to 11 years.
In the MIAC, St. Thomas fall teams won or shared five championships, with two other second splaces and one fourth. The Toms also won two of the three league playoff titles.
